World Tourism Day 2026: Pakistan’s Tourism Future Must Be Discoverable, Connected, and Trusted

By TrulyPakistan | 27 September 2026

Imagine a traveller asking an AI assistant: “Where should I go in Pakistan, and who can help me plan the trip?” The answer may influence which destination they visit, which business receives an enquiry, and which local experience they never hear about.

That is why this year’s World Tourism Day theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” matters to Pakistan. UN Tourism is exploring how AI can support better decisions, stronger skills, and more inclusive and sustainable tourism. Its concept note raises a question that should guide the discussion: as technology reshapes discovery, who benefits, and who gets to decide? www.unwto.org

At TrulyPakistan, we believe Pakistan’s guides, operators, hospitality businesses, creators, researchers, and local communities must have a voice in that future. We are building an ecosystem to help them become more visible, better connected, and better equipped to serve travellers.

TrulyPakistan’s thesis: AI readiness begins with tourism readiness

Pakistan has a substantial digital audience. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority reported more than 150 million broadband connections in its 2024–25 annual report. That figure counts connections, not unique people or prospective travellers, but it shows the scale of the country’s digital infrastructure. pta.gov.pk

TrulyPakistan’s own search performance points to demand for travel information. Our internal reporting recorded approximately 3.76 million search impressions over 16 months ending in February 2026. Impressions are appearances in search results, not visits or bookings. They tell us that people are looking for information, while leaving a more important question open: can that interest lead to a trustworthy experience and value for the people providing it?

Our thesis is that Pakistan will gain more from AI in tourism when three foundations improve together:

  1. Discoverability: Travellers and AI-powered services need accurate, useful information about destinations, experiences, and businesses.
  2. Digital capability: Tourism stakeholders need the skills and systems to manage enquiries, communicate clearly, and deliver what they promise.
  3. Trust: Travellers need dependable details about services, prices, planning, and support before they commit to a journey.

These are connected challenges. Greater visibility has limited value if a business cannot respond to an enquiry. Automation has limited value if the underlying information is wrong. A compelling destination story has limited value if the traveller cannot work out how to experience it responsibly.

Our long-term measure of progress should therefore extend beyond views and impressions. We want to examine whether more stakeholders become discoverable, more enquiries receive useful responses, more travellers find reliable information, and more local businesses can participate in the value tourism creates.

Discover, Uncover, Recover: the framework guiding our work

The TrulyPakistan ecosystem follows a framework we have developed and continue to use: Discover, Uncover, Recover.

Discover means bringing Pakistan’s destinations, people, businesses, and experiences into view. We publish travel information, tell stories, and help stakeholders establish a digital presence so travellers can find more of what Pakistan offers.

Uncover means listening closely enough to identify what is holding the experience back. Through stakeholder conversations, community engagement, and research, we examine gaps in information, service delivery, skills, and coordination.

Recover means putting that understanding to work. We help connect people, improve digital processes, develop skills, and create opportunities for tourism’s benefits to reach more stakeholders and communities.

AI can support each stage, but the framework begins with people. Local knowledge gives the information its substance, honest conversations reveal the problems, and collaboration makes improvement possible.

The TrulyPakistan ecosystem in action

TrulyPakistan.net serves as our traveller-facing information platform. Its destination guides, resources, and stories help people discover Pakistan and plan with greater confidence. As travellers increasingly use AI to ask questions, clear and current information also becomes more important to how destinations are represented online.

Through our business-facing work, including TruBiz and TruList, we are strengthening the digital presence of tourism stakeholders. Websites, search visibility, customer relationship systems, and communication tools can help a business move from being found to serving a traveller well. The purpose is practical: better information, better responses, and a more dependable customer journey.

WanderVision, our podcast, brings stakeholders into the public conversation. We speak with people across tourism and related fields to highlight their work, uncover the challenges they encounter, and ignite discussions about what the industry can do next. Their experience helps keep the conversation about technology connected to conditions on the ground.

TruMeet extends that conversation through community-led travel and tourism meetups. It gives stakeholders, travellers, creators, and emerging professionals a place to exchange ideas, build relationships, and find opportunities to work together. Digital progress needs human connections behind it.

Our learning and research efforts, including TruLearn and IRP Labs, address the skills and evidence needed for lasting change. For example, our work on curated virtual experiences in Islamabad and Rawalpindi explores how immersive tools can showcase destinations while giving students practical experience developing tourism content and technology.

TruBazzar is being developed to create opportunities around tourism-related products and local sellers. TourBuddy+ addresses another part of the journey: helping travellers feel better supported as they plan and travel. These initiatives meet different needs within a connected tourism experience.

Each part of the ecosystem has its own role. Together, they reflect our view that tourism digitization involves more than launching an app or adopting an AI tool. It involves information, business operations, skills, community, and trust working together.

A call to Pakistan’s tourism stakeholders

World Tourism Day 2026 allows Pakistan to ask practical questions. Is information about our destinations accurate and easy to find? Can a small operator respond effectively when a traveller gets in touch? Are local voices represented in the stories and recommendations people see? Are we developing the skills to use new tools well?

TrulyPakistan is committed to working on those questions through Discover, Uncover, Recover. We will continue building content, conversations, community spaces, research initiatives, and digital support that help Pakistan’s tourism stakeholders participate in a changing industry.

AI will influence how people discover and experience tourism. Our shared responsibility is to make sure Pakistan’s people and places can help shape those experiences and benefit from them.

Happy World Tourism Day 2026.
